The Developmental effects of big data in the Gulf Cooperation Council: Kuwait as a model

Abstract

 The present study aimed at analyzing the developmental impacts 
of the uses of Big Data, while stating the importance of big data 
for the Kuwaiti economy and identifying the most important 
specific development sectors that could benefit from it. Through 
the inductive approach and by using the analytical tool, it was 
found that big data provides many benefits to the development 
process until the term big data for development BD4D appeared, 
and this knowledge played a major role in increasing economic 
activity and living standards. There is a close relationship between 
data and sustainable development. Hence, big data can help bring 
about economic diversification in Kuwait. Information and 
communication technology has paid attention and placed it at the 
heart of the government's 2035 strategy, New Kuwait, which was 
launched in 2017. As for the indicators, the number of mobile 
phone connections in Kuwait to 7.38 million calls in January 2020. 
The number of individuals who use the Internet increased from the 
population during the period (1990-2019), from zero to 99.5%. 
Cloud computing revenue in Kuwait is expected to grow at a 
compound annual growth rate of 18.6% over the forecast period to 
reach $ 1.6 billion by 2024.
